Chris Eubank junior turns professional and hopes to emulate his father - Boxing news
The 22-year-old Chris Eubank junior will join new promoter Eddie Hearn as a professional boxer after he takes on Nathan DeCosta this Friday night in Brighton in what will be his final amateur fight.
Eubank, whose father Eubank senior was one of the Britain’s best boxers in the 1990’s, has been pretty impressive since he stepped in the ring in 2007. He has already gathered an army of fans and now hopes to emulate his father, who reached the top in his
career.
“My dad Barry took Chris Snr to the very top and they enjoyed a terrific 11 years together,” Hearn said. “I'm looking forward to the same kind of relationship with a young fighter who has the same arrogant strut as his dad.”
Eddie Hearn told the media about the potential he has seen in the young fighter. He stated Eubank junior even has the potential of becoming a world champion.
“Young Chris is a chip off the old block,” Hearn said. “He has his dad's confidence and, dare I say it, the ability to become a world champion.”
He added he would have not signed him if there was no talent but his immense talent has already been seen by a lot of people. He also revealed that Eubank will start off his career as a middleweight.
“If Chris Jnr did not have the talent then we wouldn't be in the slightest bit interested in signing him. But everyone around believes he can go to the very top like his father. He will be starting off as a middleweight but will almost certainly develop
into a super-middle because of his natural size,” he said.
Eubank father Chris Eubank senior also started off his career as a middleweight before he reached the top and won the World Boxing Organization’s Middleweight and Super Middleweight titles in 1991. Eubank senior, who earned himself a nickname of ‘Simply
the Best’, ended his magnificent career with 45 wins out of his 52 fights including 23 by the way of knockout.
