Chris Gayle, the rock star from West Indies scores a triple century
Chris Gayle has become only the fourth Test Cricketer in the history of the game to score two triple hundreds as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 to choke the run frenzy. Gayle was well supported
by Brendan Nash who scored a half century as West Indies play on at 532 for 3 with Gayle batting on 320* and Nash batting on 57*.
Sri Lanka made a breakthrough early on, however, they face a tough challenge in the post lunch session, as West Indies dig their way through the home side’s bowling attack. Chris Gayle an excellent willower of the ball, showed tremendous restraint early
on in the morning where he added a lone boundary to his overall score. He flicked the ball for singles and doubles playing cautiously as he aimed to reach his second triple century.
Chanderpaul accompanied Chris Gayle in the first hour of the test, where he managed to cross the 9000 run mark. He could not capitalize on the opportunity though as he was caught at slip off Suraj Randiv right after achieving that milestone. Gayle hit two
more boundaries in Thushara’s 5th over, as he hit a swashbuckling off drive which beat the deep mid off. This was followed by an edge through what was a vacant second slip position. He also raced towards the 48 year old record of Rohan Kanhai for
the highest score by a West Indian batsman in the subcontinent.
Chris Gayle entered the field like a true rock star as he paced towards the crease preparing to take his fans for the ride of a lifetime. Though the match is being played at Galle, the Sri Lankan crowd did not show lack of support for the West Indian as
he raised his bat high in the air after reaching the 300 run mark.
Chris Gayle is currently playing on 320 off just 418 deliveries hitting 34 fours and 9 sixes. In all he has scored 190 runs off boundaries which is 60% of his total.
West Indies are set to post a mammoth total and in most likelihood this match is heading for a draw given the flat pitch that offers very little to the bowlers. However that will have to be seen and if the West Indian’s manage to make some early breakthrough’s
they might stand a good chance to win this match.
