The Caribbean Kings were put into bat after Peter Borren won the toss for Netherlands. The wicket was conducive for runs, but Borren decided to chase, considering his batting strength.
Devon Smith and the explosive Chris Gayle started the innings for the Windies and they gave a solid start to their team. The pair amassed a century stand for the first wicket and laid a solid platform for the middle-order.
Smith was the first man to be dismissed after scoring a terrific half-century. He scored 53 runs from 51 balls, hitting nine fours in his innings.
The first drop, Darren Bravo joined Gayle in the middle and the pair constructed a 68-run partnership for their team. Bravo was looking good until he played a rash shot and gave his wicket away. He scored 30 runs from 38 balls.
Gayle was looking threatening as he was well set on 80. However, the flamboyant batsman was caught at long-on just one run short of his 8000 One Day International (ODI) runs.
The departure of Gayle brought Ramnaresh Sarwan and Kieron Pollard at the crease. Both batsmen played aggressive cricket in the batting power-play and took the total to 261 in just 42 overs.
Sarwan got out just one run short of a 50 in the 43rd over, but his wicket didn’t trouble Pollard at all as he pounded the Dutch bowlers to all parts of the park. Pollard’s outburst ended in the 48th over.
The explosive batsman scored 60 runs from just 27 balls and struck nine boundaries overall, including five fours and four massive sixes.
Darren Sammy and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shivnarine-Chanderpaul-c90073 failed to get going and they were dismissed for 6 and 4 runs respectively. However, wicketkeeper batsman Devon Thomas played well along with Nikita Miller, and both players guided their team’s total to 330 at the end
of their innings.
Thomas got out after scoring a run-a-ball 13 whereas; Miller remained unbeaten on 11 from 7 balls.
Pieter Seelar was the stand-out performer for his team as the left-arm spinner took three wickets in the match. He got good support from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mudassar-Bukhari-c2031, who grabbed two wickets for his team.
