Chris Gayle backs West Indies to reach World T20 final – Cricket News Update
Talismanic West Indies batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 has expressed confidence in his team’s abilities, claiming the Windies have what it takes to reach the final stage of the competition, now that the pressure of getting through the group stage of the tournament is
off them.
“We are very confident. Our main worry was to cross this hurdle which was actually to make it to the super eight so I am pretty much confident we should do well,” said Gayle. “I am very confident we can go straight to the end.
“The guys will be more relaxed. The first game was a pressure game and the second game was a pressure game as well. I think they are more relaxed and eventually they will come into their own and then they can play the cricket which everyone knows they are
capable of.”
The West Indies came into the World T20 branded with the tag of favourites. Having struggled on the international arena for quite some time, the team displayed a sudden resurgence of competitiveness and fighting spirit earlier this year, when they put up
a decent display against the touring Australian team, including a T20I series which ended on a 1-1 draw.
The team went into the World T20 after a series of comprehensive victories over the visiting New Zealand team, including a 2-0 T20I victory, and with a squad filled with made-for-T20 players – including Chris Gayle, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Bravo-c1379.
However, they put in mediocre performances during the warm-up matches prior to the mega-event – a 9-wicket defeat at the hands of hosts Sri Lanka, followed by an 8-wicket win over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745.

However, despite having failed to win a single match in the group stage, the West Indies qualified for the Super Eights stage owing to their run-rate, which was superior to that of Ireland’s.
