The West Indian struck 17 towering sixes and 13 muscular boundaries en route to a cavalier 175 not out which came off just 66 deliveries. Gayle not only scored the fastest T20 century, off just 30 balls, but also broke the record for the highest individual score in the shortest format of the game and the most sixes in an innings. While speaking to media reporters at the post match presentation ceremony Gayle said that he did not want to just score a quick hundred, rather his aim was to stay at the crease until the end.
“I didn't want to just get the century and continue blasting and blasting and get out, you know how quickly this game can change,” said Gayle, who was duly named as the Man of the Match.
“I wanted to stay there until the end, make sure I bat at least 18 overs, if not all, which I did, I look on that as a point of view, where I try and bat as many overs as possible,” added the belligerent http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 batsman.
The Jamaican left-hander further said that he was happy to help his side reach the top of the tournament’s points table.
“I'm grateful, overall from a team point of view, I'm really happy with the win, that put us on top of the table, just one of those innings, one of these days when you come out and things go according to how you want it to,” said Gayle. “Words can't explain how I feel, I think later when I am by myself I can look back and reflect on what I've done,” concluded the West Indian.
