Chris Gayle fails as Royal Challengers Bangalore collapse against Kings XI Punjab – 2nd innings
The Royal Challengers Bangalore found themselves on the receiving end of an Adam Gilchrist special as the Kings XI Punjab batsman blasted his way to a 106 runs off just 55 deliveries to take his side to a huge 232-run total in the first innings. Yet, with
Chris Gayle leading their batting line-up, the Royal Challengers knew they were still in with a chance.
Chris Gayle and Saurabh Tiwary made their way onto the pitch at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium looking to chase down what seemed to be an insurmountable total. There was a collective gasp followed by a huge cheer from the Punjab fans when
danger-man Gayle was dismissed by Ryan Harris for no run in the second over.
The wicket seemed to knock the wind right out of the Royal Challengers who failed to recover from the loss of their star man, as Virat Kohli fell in the fourth over adding just 11 runs and Harris picked up his second wicket of the match. With two of the
Royal Challengers’ major threats taken care of, Punjab bowlers focused their attention on the rest of the batsmen as Tiwary got out just twelve deliveries later.
AB de Villiers was the only batsman to surpass the 20 run mark as he top scored for the Royal Challengers with his 34 run innings and by the time he was dismissed by Chawla in the 13th over, three more wickets had already fallen. Asad Pathan was
dismissed by Valthaty and Mohammad Kaif and Arun Karthik were two more wickets Chawla would add to his tally.
The Punjab fans were in full voice while their Bangalore counterparts did not seem too entertained or pleased for that matter with the Royal Challengers’ dismal display. Van der Wath and Abhimanyu Mithun fell in quick succession for four and 10 runs respectively,
as any chance of a miraculous a late comeback disappeared.
It was game over when Srivastava took his second wicket of the match when his delivery crashed into the stumps and sent the bails flying to end the match on an emphatic note dismissing Charl Langeveldt for eight runs.
Chawla was just as impressive with the bowl, as Adam Gilchrist had been with the bat as the former took four wickets on the night that secured them a crushing victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore by a margin of 111 runs.
