http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 hails younger players as future of the team – Cricket News Update
Returning to the national side after a period of 15 months, veteran batsman Chris Gayle has pointed towards the young new players in the squad as the future of the team, claiming that they are equally important to the team, and need to be nurtured.
“When you look at guys like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 cricket,” Gayle observed. “They are the future. You cannot just hide them or throw them away. You still have to keep
them in the group. And hopefully with experience things are going to be well.”
Gayle found himself sidelined from national selection after a public spat with the West Indies Cricket Board following the World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, the all-rounder
hit out at the board, and head coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ottis-Delroy-Gibson-c80358 in an interview with Jamaican radio channel.
Following the disagreement, the West Indies team found themselves deprived, not only of players such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JE-Taylor-c1682, but also the formidable Chris Gayle, who busied himself with other commitments, playing for the Barisal Burners in
the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 Premier League and the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.
In the absence of senior players, team management were faced with the task of rebuilding the team, and new players were introduced into the mix. Young openers Adrian Barath (a 22-year-old right-hander who has played 15 Tests and 14 ODIs) and Kieran Powell
(22-year-old opener whose career spans 9 Tests and 8 ODIs) have been struggling to cement a place in the top order.
These youngsters, alongside other less experienced players such as Darren Bravo (23-year-old left-hander who has played 19 Tests and 39 ODIs) and exciting new spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, and has claimed 14 wickets in
8 ODIs) have been playing alongside veterans such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Chanderpaul-c2390, in a team which is struggling to develop into a competitive side at the international level.
While the return of Gayle (who recently reached an agreement with the WICB, and has been brought back into the national team for the upcoming ODI series against England) is bound to boost the team in a big way, the team management will be looking to senior
players not only to perform, but also to help mould the young side into a match-winning unit.
