Chris Gayle keen to secure victory in first Test against New Zealand – Cricket News Update
Having enabled his team to gain a 91-run lead over New Zealand on the 3rd day of the ongoing Test match in Antigua on July 27, West Indies all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 has insisted that a victory in the first game of the series is of utmost importance.
“The first game [of the Test series] is always important. We do not know what's going to happen in Jamaica. We have to be mindful,” Gayle insisted.
The first Test of the two-match series is currently being played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, from July 25 to 29, and will be followed by the second match, scheduled to be played at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica from August 2 to
6.
The West Indies have gone for roughly a decade without a Test series win against top-level opposition, having won only one of the last ten Test series they have hosted – against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747. New Zealand’s current tour of the United States and the Caribbean,
however, has seen the West Indies emerging triumphant in the T20I series (which they won 2-0 in Florida) and the ODI series (which they won 4-1 in the Caribbean).
The hosts appear to have carried the momentum into the extended-overs series, and are currently at a dominant position – an opportunity Gayle feels his side needs to exploit, in order to make sure they are in a position to win the series.
After http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kieran-Omar-Akeem-Powell-c71441 (134) stuck it out at the crease for a massive 254 partnership, remaining unbeaten all through day 2 and for
the earlier part of day 3. Their effort provided the team a solid base, and the end of day 3 saw the Windies at 442 for 6 – with a 91-run lead, and four wickets still in hand.
“When you get a chance like this, capitalise and cash in … Hopefully [we] can actually get 50 runs or more and put ourselves in a winning position,” Gayle said.
