The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has announced the 13-member squad for the third One Day International (ODI), of the ongoing five-match series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
The third ODI is scheduled to be played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound in Antigua, on Saturday, June 11, 2011.
The Windies suffered two consecutive, humiliating, defeats in the first two ODIs mostly due to their lackluster batting performance.
The dejected skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Julius-Garvey-Sammy-c52468, also blamed his batsmen for the loss in both encounters. However, the Board once again seemed to have missed the trick, leaving the star opening batsman, Chris Gayle, out from the list.
The team will not only miss Gayle at the top-order but also http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Bravo-c1379 and Ravi Rampaul, who are rested for the third game.
While the Jamaican cricketer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KAJ-Roach-c1758, has made his comeback into the side in Rampaul’s place.
"Dwayne Bravo made a request of the Selection Committee to be given a break from the game and the request was granted. After an intense period of heavy workload http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Rampaul-c2233 is being rested for the Antigua leg of the West Indies v India Series 2011," the
WICB said in a statement.
Gayle has not played any international cricket since the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011.
The Board earlier left the explosive opener out of the national side for the recent ODI and Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, accusing him of preferring the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) over the country.
However, the blazing all-rounder denied the allegations, claiming that the Board did not approach him to check his availability for national cricket duties.
Gayle represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the recent season of the Twenty20 league, and won the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award, scoring 608 runs in 12 games.
On Gayle’s issue, the Board stated, "The WICB Management and the West Indies Team Management have not yet met with Chris Gayle and as such he has not been considered for selection for the 3rd Digicel Pearls ODI. The WICB and Gayle are currently working on
settling a date for the meeting."
