Chris Gayle pulls out of West Indian contract
The West Indies cricket ran into deeper trouble when it was revealed on Wednesday that their captain Chris Gayle had refused the central contract with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board. Gayle follows in the
footsteps of Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo, who had earlier refused to be bound by the contract.
According to a press statement which was released by the WICB, the board said that Gayle and Bravo had been offered A level contracts while Pollard was offered a C level contract but all three had refused
to sign the dotted line.
The WICB also said that they had asked the trio to give an explanation regarding the same, “in an attempt to understand same and so that the issues can be addressed for future contract offers.”
This has been in pipeline for some time now. Gayle had once claimed that he did not enjoy playing Test cricket too much and would prefer the T20 format instead. In another instance, Gayle had sent across
a text message to English cricketer, Kevin Pietersen while playing in the IPL, that read “”$$$$$$”, at a time when Pietersen had not been able to be part of the IPL, suggesting Gayle might be avoiding international play to focus on more lucrative IPL play.
The WICB have, however, said that the trio could still be selected for the West Indian team if they fulfilled the basic criteria of the number of games played at West Indian domestic level. The WICB also
said that the possession of a retainer contract was never a prerequisite to get selected in the West Indian side.
The West Indian board had earlier made an offer of the contract to 25 West Indian cricketers and given them ten days to sign them. It was also said that if the players had an issue with the contracts, alternate
contracts could be provided.
All the players except these three have signed the contract. Ramnaresh Sarwan, another prominent West Indian cricketer was not offered the contract because of supposed fitness issues. And with Gayle and Bravo
opting out, only http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shivnarine-Chanderpaul-c90073 has been offered an A level contract.
Sulieman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shane-Shillingford-c89689, Nikita Miller, Devon Smith, Ravi Rampaul, Nelon
Pascal, David Bernard Jr, Andre http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Carlton-Baugh-c49264 have all been offered the C level.
