Chris Gayle says recent PSN outage is the reason for his IPL form – Cricket news
Royal Challengers Bangalore and West Indies all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221, has gone on record and explained in an interview the motivating factor behind his aggression with the bat in the fourth season of the Indian Premier League. According to him, the recent
outage of Sony’s online gaming network, the Plays Station Network, has been the reason for his batting displays.
“It has been a while since I’ve played COD (Call of Duty), Killzone (3) or even Little Big Planet, with my friends,” Gayle explained, before continuing, “It used to help me manage my anger and aggression issues. It was almost like therapy and my psychiatrist
encouraged it as well.”
Apparently, Gayle was going through a tough period in his life with anger management issues that corresponded with the decline of West Indies cricket. A huge fan of the Call of Duty series, Gayle would spend a few hours every day winding down by playing
on the PSN with a group of friends.
Using the PSN ID ‘GaYle_tHe_DeVAstatOR’, Gayle was a well known player in the online gaming community for being a cool, calm and patient player, often using sniper rifles and laying in wait for ages for that one perfect shot. “It was like he wasn’t even
there,” explained one of his friends, “His skills at ambush and stealth were amazing.”
It seems Gayle’s alter ego would take over while he was playing and would take him to a calm ‘happy place’, which seemed to be stark contrast as to the way he performs on the cricket field.
“When I play online I find a balance between the aggression I need as a batsman in real life and the peace that I get from playing with my friends,” Gayle explained, “That is what kept my head straight all this time, but now things have changed.”
The PSN outage has also been a reason for Gayle’s exchange with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board and his move to the IPL. “I was in a foul mood after the PSN went down. I admit that and my behaviour with the WICB was not the best, but I needed to vent some
of that frustration somewhere.”
Gayle opted for the IPL over the series against Pakistan because he needed to be able to play on a more regular basis to help keep his anger levels down. “The IPL league seemed a better place with matches happening on a more regular basis than the stop-start
series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.”
When asked if the lack of online gaming was the motivating factor behind his recent performances in the IPL, Gayle responded with a nod of his head before elaborating, “Before, when a bowler ran in to bowl I tried keeping a steady head waiting for the right
delivery, much like my sniping style, but now I just want to smash every ball out of the stadium.”
Gayle has had more than just a little success scoring two centuries in the tournament so far. “I was really happy when I scored the second century against the Kings (XI Punjab) because of the news Virat (Kohli) told me that he just heard the PSN was coming
back up at the end of the week. That made my day.”
The Play Station Network, however, is still not back up yet and it seems bowlers will have to suffer just a little bit longer until the people at Sony can sort out the issue. Until then, all fans are requested to take helmets with them every time Gayle walks
in to bat.
