As he sets his sights on making a much awaited comeback to the national team for their upcoming tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, West Indies opener has pulled out from his obligations with English County Somerset, hoping that his stance will help him to regain his place
in the squad.
"I wish to advise that as of today, May 2nd, 2012, I have written to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 CC and advised them that I will not be honouring the commitment I made to them when I signed a contract with them for the 2012 [Friends Life t20],” said Gayle.
The player has not played for the Windies since a falling out with WICB, following the team’s 2011 World Cup campaign. He was omitted from the team’s subsequent home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RR-Sarwan-c2371 and Shivnarine
Chanderpaul.
It ultimately forced Gayle to publically criticize the board’s handling of the senior statesmen, and to pursue an opportunity to play in the Indian Premier League, where Royal Challengers snapped him for the fourth season.
WICB also remained firm in their stance and publically announced that they will not select the former skipper until he retracts from his comments. A year has gone by, which has seen the 32-year-old plying his trade in various lucrative T20 leagues around
the world, before making a desire to return to playing for the national side.
Following an agreement between the two parties, conducted by CARICOM (the Caribbean Community), Gayle offered his services for the team’s ODI bouts against England. However, that jeopardized the Jamaican’s stint with Somerset, to whom he was contracted for
the current Friends Life T20 campaign, after the WICB confirmed that Gayle needs to make himself available before being considered for selection.
Adhering to WICB wishes, Gayle has formally announced his decision to pull out of the Somerset deal.
“I made it clear to them that my decision was made because of my commitment to West Indies cricket and to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 cricket fans, and because ... I believe that it is time for the WICB to make a decision which will provide a clearer view of my own future,"
Gayle said in a statement.
West Indies will kick-start their tour of England with a three-match Test series from May 17, followed by 3 ODIs and One T20.
