West Indies cricket sensation Chris Gayle has caused an uproar with his decision to play for the Royal Challengers Bangalore instead of his nation for the upcoming series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
The former captain contacted the West Indies Cricket Board and requested that the necessary arrangements be made on their part to allow him pursue his interest in the IPL.
With the first T20 against Pakistan scheduled to begin on Thursday 21
April, Gayle’s decision was met with anger by the WICB.
The cricketing authority were supervising the former captain’s recovery from an abdominal strain injury he had picked up and were expecting to have his name in the team sheet for the matches against Pakistan when he was declared fit.
Instead the WICB received a notification that Gayle had instead opted to play for the Royal Challengers rather than report for international duty.
Representatives of the Board said, "The WICB does not accept Gayle's reason for making himself unavailable but as he has already clearly made his choice and has travelled to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, the WICB does not wish to stand in his way.”
At the same time the WICB was quick to commend Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard who opted to play for their national side as opposed to joining the IPL themselves.
Gayle was auctioned at a price of $400,000 though he did not receive any bids due to the fact that he was expected to link up with the rest of his squad for the upcoming Pakistan Series.
He is expected to join his IPL team-mates soon as he heads out to Bangalore to tie up all the formalities and help the Royal Challengers climb up the IPL table from their lowly ninth position.
Vijay Mallya, the owner of the IPL outfit could not hold back his joy at the acquisition of the explosive batsmen. He shared the news with the fans and the rest of the world on his twitter feed when he declared that the deal was “official”.
The move rules Gayle not just from the T20s against Pakistan but also makes him unavailable for the entire tour.
