West Indian star batsman, Chris Gayle, seeks to finally overcome his prolonged stand-off with the West Indian Cricket Board (WICB), after the estranged player is scheduled to meet the governing body’s Chief Executive, Ernest Hilaire, to sort out his consistent
exclusion from the West Indian squad.
Gayle is scheduled to meet the official early next week; however, for many, it comes a little surprising, since the ‘Gayle and WICB issue’ has not yet been sorted out, despite the fact that in a recent happening it was learnt that the Caribbean Community
(Caricom) heads had also stepped in to resolve the issue.
What sparked the clash between Gayle was the latters decision during the fourth season of the cash rich Indian Premier League (IPL), Gayle preferred to opt for the domestic Twenty20 (T20) competition for his team Bangalore Royal Challengers, rather than
making himself available for national duty.
Since Gayle’s IPL commitments came in clash with the scheduled visit by the Pakistani tourists, the batter was eventually axed from the series.
However, prior to the debacle, Gayle also left an infuriated http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup, claiming to seek rehabilitation for his niggling injury.
Gayle’s supposed ‘fiendish behaviour’ led the board into excluding the batter from the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 series and the Indian one as well.
The matter also took hype when Gayle’s consistent requests led to governmental intervention. As a result, the batsman stood out relived, after Guyana’s President, Bharrat Jagdeo, came out in his support.
Jagdeo also urged the other Caricom heads to look into the matter and come out loud to support Gayle. The president offered some strong criticism for the WICB, citing the Board as a private entity out to own West Indian cricket.
As for now, many would hope to see an eventual conclusion to the matter. Hopefully Gayle’s scheduled meeting the Chief Executive will come out with a positive verdict on the matter.
