Chris Getz helps Kansas City Royals edge Detroit Tigers 3-2 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals edged Detroit Tigers 3-2 at the Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Wednesday, May 2 in the finale of their two game series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. The Royals will be delighted to pick up an important win against
one of the strongest teams in American League Central Division.
Without a shadow of a doubt, the Royals have raised the level of their game play in the last week or so. After losing twelve straight games, they have won four out of the last seven, which suggests that they have worked hard on their weak areas.
Eric Hosmer displayed some high quality hitting skills as he doubled to deep centre in the first to give Royals 1-0 lead. Both teams failed to score in the next four innings and Jeff Francoeur combined with Alex Gordon in the sixth to help Kansas City take
a crucial 2-0 lead.
The Tigers battled back superbly in the eighth, thanks to Brennan Boesch who homered to right to level the score at 2-2. Second baseman Chris Getz had an infield single in the ninth inning which put the Royals 3-2 ahead and the lead lasted till the end of
the match.
Royals will take a lot of confidence from their win against the Tigers and they will be looking to continue their decent form in their home series against New York Yankees.
"Our expectations were we had to win the division by 25 or 30 games -- they were pretty unrealistic in the first place," Detroit catcher Alex Avila said. "Our goal at spring training was to win the division, by one game or 10 games doesn't matter to us.
We're not happy with the way we've played, but that's part of baseball and no one in this clubhouse is worried about it."
It was only the seventh win of the season for Kansas City Royals who have been struggling to find their form. Detroit won the opener comfortable 3-2 and they were hoping to secure a series sweep but their batting line up failed miserably once again and the
Royals clinched a thriller to level the series.
