Chris Guccione downs Louk Sorensen to enter main draw – Farmers Classic 2012
Australian rising star, Chris Guccione, stomped over Ireland’s Louk Sorensen in straight sets in the qualifying competition of Farmers Classic 2012 on Monday. He registered a 6-2, 6-3 victory against the world number 558 to cruised into the main draw at
this outdoor hard court tournament taking place in Los Angeles, California.
The left-hander from Australia needed almost an hour to stomp Sorensen in their first encounter. As a result, Guccione convincingly book a spot in the main draw at this Emirates Airline US Open Series tournament taking place from 23rd to 29th
July.
Guccione stepped into the Los Angeles Tennis Center with poise and held his opening serve to take the initial lead. After Sorensen held his serve in the fourth game, the Aussie unleashed his true colours and wiped out the last four games in a row. He cashed
in both break chances and swiped his entire serves without encountering any breakpoint.
The 510th ranked Aussie kept momentum rolling in the following set and again plucked his entire serves without facing any barrier. He capitalised on one out of four break chances in the eighth game and pocketed the set with a 6-3 win.
All in all, the 26-year-old fired 10 aces and spilled fewer double faults. He clobbered a higher first serve share of 57 per cent as opposed to his rival’s 44 per cent and tremendously marked 20 out of 25 points on it. Guccione capped the deal with 59 points
and dominated throughout the match.
Up next for the Aussie is his sixth seeded compatriot, Marinko Matosevic, in the opening round.
Later that day, Jack Sock crashed out to Italy’s Flavio Cipolla in the opening round.
“I felt like I was hitting the ball pretty well," said Sock after exiting from the tournament with disappointment. "I was hoping to use the height and the kick serve and high heavy forehands to get up on him. He handled it well. He played well tonight and
credit to him.”
The local wildcard recipient capitalised on one out of four break opportunities but was broken five times, subsequently suffering a 3-6, 1-6 loss.
