Chris Heisey’s three-run homer guides Cincinnati Reds to 6-5 win over New York Mets – MLB Update
Chris Heisey hit a go-ahead three-run homer on Monday, September 27 to help the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 6-5 at Citi Field, New York.
Heisey stunned the crowd with his diving catch after which he hit the three-run homer to win the game for the Reds.
Jose Reyes wasted an invaluable opportunity in the eighth inning to tie the score when he miscalculated the base-running after he attained a batting lead in the National League with three more hits in the game. His hits now stand at 177.
Homer Bailey of the Cincinnati Reds had an ERA of 4.43 with nine hits that he gave up, allowing four runs and having seven strike-outs compared to Chris Schwinden of the New York Mets who pitched five innings to allow three runs and five hits with a 4.71
ERA.
Cincinnati started the game with Joey Votto’s sacrifice fly hit that brought the team a 1-0 lead. Homer Bailey pitched a shut-out to maintain the lead. Devin Mesoraco had a one-run double in the second to increease the lead for the team.
David Wright scored a single and Nick Evans went for two-run double in the third to give the team a 3-2 lead by the end of the third inning while Dave Sappelt levelled the score with his single to left in the fourth inning.
Jose Reyes had a tiebreaking single in the fourth to give the Mets a 4-3 lead until Chris Heisey had the go-ahead three-run homer at the top of the seventh inning. Just when the Mets had the lead in the game, Heisey hit a homer against Ryota Igarashi to
give the team a comfortable 6-4 lead in the game.
Jose Reyes could have reversed the tide in the eighth inning against Jose Arredondo when he had a hit but blundered in base-running to tie the score. With the lead standing at 6-5 Francisco Cordero came to pitch the ninth inning.
Cordero pitched and allowed a hit in the inning to wrap up the game with a 6-5 victory for the Reds. This was Cordero’s 36th save of the season to bestow a hard-earned win over the Mets.
