Chris Henry signs his new deal with Ulster Rugby – Rugby News
Belfast based Irish professional Rugby Union side, Ulster Rugby, has extended the stay of their back row forwards player Chris Henry with the club. Officials at the club have confirmed the
signing of a new two-year deal with Henry in a statement released on their website on Thursday, October 20.
Ulster Rugby has handed over the new deal to Henry, prior to expiration of his earlier contract with the club. The new deal will help Henry to stay at the Northern Ireland based Rugby Union
club until June 2014.
Ulster’s, Director of Rugby, David Humphreys has expressed his deligh on securing the services of the Irish international player at the club. He termed Henry’s fitness level as one of the reasons,
which has compelled the club to give him a long-term stay at the club. He said, “In the modern game, player durability is becoming a vital part of player recruitment and Chris has been consistently available for selection throughout the last few seasons.”
Humphreys has praised Henry’s versatility and has commended his leadership skills. He said, “Over the past couple of years Chris has developed into a key member of the Ulster team and his ability
to play in a number of positions across the back row had been invaluable to the squad and the coaching staff.
Henry led Ulster Rugby in the absence of Rory Best. His leadership was exceptional, particularly in the absence of the club’s first choice players, who are on the national duty for Ireland
in the ongoing 2011 Rugby World Cup. Ireland ended their World Cup campaign after suffering a surprise defeat from the Wales.
The 27-year-old Henry has expressed his delight on signing his new deal with the club. He added that it was not a hard decision for him to agree a long-term stay at the club. He further added,
“I’m very excited to have got the contract signed and it allows me to concentrate solely on rugby for the next three years.”
Henry made his professional Rugby Union debut for the Ulster in 2006. He made his international debut for Ireland in 2010. He has only played one game for the national side.
