Chris Henry will be fit for the final – Rugby News Update
Chris Henry, the 27-year-old Ulster and Irish back-row has confirmed that he will be fit for the final of the Heineken Cup against Leinster, having endured the ankle injury playing against the same opponents a month ago.
The Ulster No.8 has been the most consistent player for the club according to coach, Brian McLaughlin. For his outstanding displays during the season, he was also named Ulster’s player of the season.
Henry has added that he is confident that he will be ready for the match, and he has been training hard to achieve fitness in time.
He said, "I travelled with the squad to Portugal earlier this week, and although I trained by myself most of the time with some of the back-room staff, everything came on really well. With another week to go before the game I will get myself right up to
speed and will be throwing my hat into the ring for selection."
Henry for all his consistent play has only played one test for his country Ireland, which came against Australia at Brisbane, on June 26, 2010. However, he is in line for a test call-up once again when Ireland tours New Zealand this summer. Henry first came
to prominence at the Wallace High School, and he went on to represent Ireland at the U21 levels. He got an initial contract for the Ulster Academy but it was upgraded to a development contract in 2006.
Leinster will be formidable opponents for Ulster, who are playing their first Heineken final after 13 years, while Leinster is gunning for back-to-back titles. This is evident to the team but Ulster lock Dan Tuohy feels otherwise.
He said, "Leinster did the double over us in this season's PRO12 but I don't think that makes them favourites for the final. What does make them favourites is having won two Heineken Cup finals in the last three years...”
This will be the biggest game for many Ulster players and they would love to get their hands on the Heineken Cup. The return of Henry will be a timely boost for the underdogs Ulster.
