Chris Horner certain about his inclusion in the RadioShack-Nissan-Trek – Cycling News
Winner at the Tour of California 2011, Chris Horner has been assured that his name is included in the RadioShack-Nissan-Trek. RadioShack manager Johan Bruyneel has assured the cyclist that he is amongst the safe riders for the coming season and his name
will be included in the roaster for the new team.
Christopher is currently at 27th position with 143 points on the UCI World Tour individual rankings as the Belgian star Philippe Gilbert is leading the table with 698 points and Cadel Evans at second position. Omega Pharma-Lotto is leading the
team’s rankings while Leopard Trek is at second position with their future partner Team RadioShack at 11th position.
The 39-year-old seemed quite positive for the RadioShack-Nissan-Trek merger as he believes that team has the best riders from both sides and will be hard to beat as he told cycling news, “Hypothetically speaking at this moment if the merger’s all there,
we’re going to have a team that’s going to have a star-studded, super incredible team that’s going to be something like Mapei had back in the day, when you’re looking at Tony Rominger winning the Giro, winning the Tour of Spain and then all their classic guys.”
Horner is turning 40 next month and has no plans of retiring at the moment as he said, “I am not planning on retiring in two years, no I am going to keep going as long as I can.” The American rider has just signed a two year contract with RadioShack and
mentioned that this is not his last contract.
The new team roster has not been announced as of now but some riders from RadioShack that are sure to make their way in the new team include Andreas Kloden, Haimar Zubeldia, Matthew Busche, Jani Brajkovic, Ben King, Nelson Oliveira, Jesse Sergent and Chris
Horner.
Chris was really surprised about the merger but he also believes that the formation of RadioShack-Nissan-Trek will be a new dimension in his career as it will give him the opportunity to ride with the best cyclists of both sides. It will be interesting to
see who manages to find a place in the new team and who gets affected by it, as one way or the other, merging of the two teams is nothing more than downsizing.
