Chris Horner eyeing a Tour de France spot
Chris Horner of Team RadioShack-Nissan is saving his energies for the biggest race of the season, the Tour de France 2012.
Unlike most of the other Tour contenders, Horner has opted to stay home instead of testing his legs at the Tour de Suisse or the Criterium du Dauphine 2012.
The cyclist is currently focussing on his training and is hopeful to make it through to the final Tour squad.
Three time podium finisher of the race, Andy Schleck is most likely to lead Team RadioShack-Nissan at the race but his current form has raised a lot of suspicions on his Tour participations.
Andy has not opened his 2012 winning account yet and is currently trying his luck at the Criterium du Dauphine 2012.
He currently holds the 129th overall spot after the stage 5 classifications of the Criterium du Dauphine.
Team RadioShack-Nissan is one of the most highly paid squad in the peloton and its performance has been a real disappointed for the team’s General Manager Johan Bruyneel.
Chris Horner, who finished second overall at the Tirreno-Adriatico and occupied the 8th overall spot at the Tour of California 2012 is positive to secure a Tour de France spot.
The cyclist had a minor injury during the Tour of California but is now all set to prove his dominance at the French Grand Tour.
He told Cyclingnews, "The muscles tightened up on me, and I needed some rest, I strained something that happened in the past and it flares up from time to time”.
“I had to take a week to relax and I'm back on the bike so everything's fine and it certainly isn't affecting my ability to train".
"I've been riding well all year, and I'm on the same program as last year where I went straight from the Tour of California to the Tour de France, so I'm not too worried about it”.
“But it's something for the directors to decide".
Chris noted that Andy Schleck and Frank Schleck are most definitely the strongest General Classifications contenders in the side and he is more than happy to support the two during the three-week race.
