Chris Horner to use all his experience at the London Olympics
Chris Horner is all set to lead his side at the coming London Olympics and the cyclist is determined to return home with nothing less than gold at the mega event.
The 40-year-old is in competitive cycling since 1997 and has seen a lot of ups and downs in his extensive career.
He will use all his experience to ensure his team’s best performance at the coming race.
Horner will be accompanied by Tyler Farrar, Tejay Van Garderen, Tim Duggan and Taylor Phinney for the 250 kilometre race.
“It's unbelievable," he told The Oregonian. "I've been trying to be part of the Olympics since '92”.
“I went to my first Olympic trials in Altoona, Pa. I was quite young then, I think maybe 19".
"It's a pretty grand thing to see the size of it and the scope. Everybody walking around in it is an athlete.
“That's when I really I started to realise I was at the Olympics," Horner said.
"I didn't really believe there was time in your 40s to still be making it [to the Olympics].
The 40-year-old marked his professional debut with Team Francaise des Jeux in 1997 and stayed with the team for a period of three year, until 1999.
He also represented Team Mercury (2000-01), Team Prime Alliance (2002), Team Saturn (2003), Team Webcor Builders (2004), Team Saunier Duval-Prodir (2005) and Team Davitamon-Lotto for 2012 season.
Chris penned a two-year deal with Team Astana (2008-2009) before moving to Team RadioShack (2010-2011) and became a part of Team RadioShack-Nissan in 2012 after the merger.
Horner was recently seen in action at the Tour de France where he managed to secure a convincing 13th overall spot after the final general classifications.
He will ride alongside the Tour de France young rider classifications winner Tejay Van Garderen to make a perfect combination of experience and youth.
While commenting on the race favourites Chris briefed that while everyone is talking about Mark Cavendish, he believes that Peter Sagan has more chances of securing the gold as Mark is not match to his sprinting abilities.
It will be interesting to see, how Horner leads the American side at the coming race at the biggest sporting event of the year.
