Newly appointed Norwich City manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Hughton divulged that he will go at lengths to keep the Canaries goal scoring machine Grant Holt at the Carrow Road, after the striker filed a transfer request.
The English International, who joined Norwich in July 2009 from Shrewsbury Town for an undisclosed transfer fee, played the principal role in the clubs ascent to top flight football. The Canaries were once tottering in the third tier of English football,
but won back to back promotions under former manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Lambert-becoming the first team in eleven years to achieve the feat.
The striker blasted 28 goals during his first full season at the Carrow Road in League one, to help his side gain promotion to the Championship. He continued where he left of next season, bagging 30 scalps from 44 appearances as Norwich secured a place in
the Premier League at the start of the 2011/12 season.
Despite the fact that he remains a celebrity at the Norfolk club, the striker submitted a transfer request to Norwich, with reports suggesting that he may join his former boss Lambert at Aston Villa.
Lambert took over the management at Villa Park earlier in June.
With Hughton filling the managerial seat vacated by the former Borussia Dortmund player, he admitted his prime target was to convince Holt to stay at Norwich.
While talking to reporters, he said: “I don't think there would be any manager coming in that wouldn't want to keep a player of that quality. That will be one of the priorities, along with other members of the squad. I do need that opportunity to chat with
him, but he's a player that's contracted to this football club.”
Earlier in May, Holt was voted as Norwich’s Player of the Season for the third year on the bounce. In total, he has made 129 appearances for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Canaries-c38723 and netted 70 goals.
Hughton, who has also managed Newcastle United and Birmingham City, conceded that he was wary of the challenges that lay in store for him in the coming days, and needs to know more about the current strengths and weaknesses of the squad.
He also let out his intention of bringing reinforcements during the summer, and admitted he has to make some big decisions in the coming days.
He added, “We need to see where we can strengthen and where we can make ourselves better as a team and as a squad. These are decisions that I will need to make over a period of time.”
