Chris Kaman looking to return for Los Angeles Clippers next week
Los Angeles Clippers centre Chris Kaman did not travel with the team to face the Phoenix Suns on Friday 26 November because ofa
sprained left ankle, but the former Central Michigan standout believes that he could return next week.
Kaman, who averaged 11.4 points and 7.8 rebounds in eight games with Clippers this season, missed the team’s last eight games after hurting his left ankle on 9 November against the New Orleans
Hornets. The German centre admitted he is still bothered by his injury, but he is already practising with the team.
“The true story is I kind of jumped the gun,” Kaman said. “I was feeling good and I was walking around feeling good, so I thought I was going to be good to play sooner than later. I tried
to go out there two days ago to do some stuff.”
The 28-year-old centre added that the swelling in his ankle has decreased, but he also admitted that he still could not do some moves that he was comfortable doing before he sustained the
injury. “I can't jump off it yet like I want to without a lot of pain. I can do single-leg toe raises, cannot do many single-leg jumps. I'm working on getting more strength now,” he said.
Meanwhile, Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro also revealed that starting point guard Baron Davis might return to action along with Kaman next week.
According to Del Negro, Davis, who has only played four games this season, where he averaged 8.8 points and 4.8 assists per game, is slowly getting comfortable with his knee, although they
would still evaluate his condition in their coming practices. “We want to get a couple more practices out of him and see exactly where he is before we put him out there,” he said.
The Clippers will have a tough week ahead of them as they are set to face the league-leading San Antonio Spurs at home on 1 December, before going into a two-game road trip to face the Denver
Nuggets on 3 November and the Portland Trail Blazers on 5 November.
