Chris Kelly, Gregory Campbell thrilled to be with Boston Bruins with new contracts -NHL Update
With reports about Chris Kelly and Gregory Campbell re-signing with the Boston Bruins in recent days, the franchise made it official on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, that both players are satisfied and happy to continue their careers with the 2011 Stanley Cup
champion team.
Gregory Campbell was signed on to a three-year deal and will continue playing in the National Hockey League (NHL) without having to go into the free agency, something which he is really excited about for sure.
According to sources, the deal is worth $1.6 million annually.
"I think it's really a team that fits my style of play. It's a team that's built on winning championships and a team and an organization that's fully committed. So my first priority going into free agency was ultimately to not even make it there," the 28-year-old
said.
Campbell and Kelly will be playing their third straight season with the Boston Bruins next time around, which is also something that makes the team proud.
Boston Bruins general manager, Peter Chiarelli, also expressed his delight on the occasion.
"Both these guys are glue guys and Gregory epitomizes the Bruins' style of play," Chiarelli said. "And when we brought him here the year before last, he did great service for us on the fourth line. But he's also shown that he can play up and he's a strong
player, a strong faceoff [guy], a very responsible player -- and I can't stress enough the ‘glue' nature to his game.”
Kelly has signed on to a $12 million deal for the next four seasons with Boston Bruins, which will be made official on July 1st.
Gregory Campbell left the Florida Panthers after the 2009-2010 regular season while Chris Kelly was traded by Ottawa Senators after playing 57 games with the Canadian club during the same season.
Boston Bruins continue to work towards making their team better in every aspect as they saw an early ousting in this year’s playoffs. Washington Capitals eliminated the 2011 Stanley Cup champions in seven games of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals, but
Boston Bruins are confident of a better run next time around.
