Chris Kelly scores back-to-back leading Boston Bruins over Winnipeg Jets 4-2 -NHL Match Update
Chris Kelly emerged strong in the second period not only to level the match, but also by making the game-winner to lift the Boston Bruins over the Winnipeg Jets, 4-2, on Saturday night, November 26, 2011, at the sold-out TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts,
United States.
Boston has now improved to the second position in the Eastern Conference with 29 points by having won 11 of their past matchups, with one single loss against the Detroit Red Wings which snapped their 10 game winning streak.
Winnipeg looked determined by starting off the match in a dominating way as the Jets scored two straight by Evander Kane for his 10th of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, followed by Dustin Byfuglien nearly 40 seconds
later.
Boston Bruins captain, Zdeno Chara, scored his fourth of the season to finally put the home team on the scoreboard during their first power play opportunity of the night with Winnipeg’s, Byfuglien, out with a minor penalty for interference.
"Sometimes you're not going to always have great legs, it's a season, it's a schedule," said Chara. "And you are not always going to feel great, but the bottom line, if you don't have your legs you have to move the puck and that's what we were focusing on,
moving the puck. And making simple plays and putting a lot of pressure on them especially in the offensive zone."
Chris Kelly potted his first of the night nearly midway through the second period at a time when Boston was down a player when Nathan Horton was booked for tripping and served with a minor, and fired off another with less than four minutes remaining to give
the lead to the Bruins.
"We knew he could provide us some," Boston head coach, Claude Julien, said about Chris Kelly. "To this point he's probably exceeded what we expected from him."
Brad Marchand insured the match so that Winnipeg could not tie the Bruins with his breakaway goal at the 18:51 mark of the third and final period, ultimately giving Boston the match and another two points.
Boston has the next against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday to finish off the month while Winnipeg will be returning home to face the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.
