Chris Kirk remains in contention for his title defence at the True South Classic
Chris Kirk, the defending champion at the True South Classic, remained in contention after carding a four-under par 68 for a nine-under par 36-hole score at the Annandale Golf Club on Friday, July 20, 2012.
Kirk remained consistent through the first 16 holes that he played on day two. He recorded five birdies and a stunning eagle against a lone bogey to go six-under for the round.
However, he did not finish the round the way he wanted to. He suffered two back-to-back bogeys on the final two holes to drop down to 68 for the round.
“I made a few bogeys towards the end. I think I was borderline heat stroke for a little while there. I just kind of got tired, to be honest with you,” he told the PGA Tour website.
Still, he managed to take the share of the sixth place prior to the bad light conditions at the course that led the play into suspension.
“I'm playing well. I'm definitely in contention, which is all you're really looking for on a Thursday or Friday,” he said. “It doesn't really matter who's leading at this point. You just want to give yourself a chance going into the weekend. I've done that
thankfully”.
According to Kirk, the course layouts really suits his style of playing, which is the main reason behind his success at the venue.
“More of a second shot golf course, which is definitely my strength, my iron play,” he said.
Apart from that, he also told that the greens are absolutely perfect because of their quickness and smoothness. Therefore, it was quite easy for him to record some impressive putts other than the final two holes of the day.
He is currently four strokes behind the clubhouse leader Billy Horschel, who had an impressive day, as he carded a nine-under par 63 for a 13-under par two-round score.
Jason Bohn, the overnight leader had to return to his tent prior to finishing the second round. He was four-under for the day and still had nine holes left in his round.
Therefore, he will now continue his second round campaign early Saturday morning with the shared second position on the leaderboard.
