Chris Licciardi conquers Girls 100m butterfly gold - Australian State Teams Age SC Championships
Chris Licciardi of Victoria conquered gold medal of Girls 100m butterfly in the 15-16 years old class, on the third day of the 2011 Australian State Teams Age Short Course Championships. The session ended on Monday, September 19, at the Australian Institute
of Sport (AIS) in Canberra.
Licciardi overwhelmed the efforts of her fellow competitors and proved her eligibility for the crown by posting a sterling time of 1 minute and 00.59 seconds. Her effort was just 0.25 seconds below the age group record of Zoe Johnson from New South Wales,
who captured the title of the same event in a record time of 1 minute and 00.34 seconds.
The 15-year-old gold medallist managed a lead of 0.46 seconds over her following swimmer, Megan Gianotti of Queensland, as she appeared on the podium for silver medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 01.05 seconds. Gianotti was trailed by Georgia Miller
of New South Wales, who remained just 0.26 seconds behind her preceding swimmer and clocked a time of 1 minute and 01.31 seconds.
Moments later, the crowd witnessed a gruelling effort of Liacciardi’s team-member, Emma Niere, who earned fourth position of the event with a timing of 1 minute and 01.60 seconds. Niere was only 0.17 seconds ahead of her following competitor, Ely Gasparotto
of New South Wales, as she concluded her swim in 1 minute and 01.77 seconds.
Carla Buchanan of Queensland was the sixth position holder of the event, as she remained 0.50 seconds behind Gasparotto and clocked a time of 1 minute and 02.27 seconds. Similarly, Brian Throssell of Western Australia surfaced on the finishing wall for seventh
position of the swim, with a timing of 1 minute and 02.29 seconds.
Likewise, the eighth position of the event was gained by Miller’s team-member, Ami Matsuo, who remained only 0.08 seconds slower than her foregoing swimmer and posted a time of 1 minute and 02.37 seconds. In addition, Licciardi was contented with her title
claiming effort, while the frontrunners received medals for their laudable efforts in the 100m swim.
