Chris Lloyd clubhouse leader at Barclays Kenya Open of the European Challenge Tour
The European Challenge Tour event of Barclays Kenya Open teed-off early morning Thursday at the par-71, Muthaiga golf course in Nairobi. The four day tournament started with some exciting golf being played, as Englishman Chris Lloyd is the current clubhouse
leader.
There was a delay early in the morning due to water logging on the course. It was the overnight rains which delayed the start. Players were eagerly waiting for their tee-off, as the tournament organisers had to reschedule the tee-off times.
Nature continued to be a challenge for the officials, as play again was abandoned late in the afternoon, as the heavy rain started to fall.
It was the Englishman Chris Lloyd who was able to finish his first round, as he became the clubhouse leader. Lloyd carded a superb round of six-under par, 65 on the first day. He was bogey-free on his card and managed to take the top spot on the leader-board.
Lloyd was quite satisfied with the way he played his first round, as he scored six birdies and twelve pars for the first round. It was his putting which supported him throughout the day. The youngster was stroking the ball well on the green and was hitting
his tee-shots accurately as well.
The clubhouse leader is followed by Nicholas Rokoine of Kenya. He was also among the players who were able to complete his first round. Rokoine posted a round of four-under par, 67 and is two behind the leader. He had five birdies and a single bogey for
the day. The only bogey came on the long par-4, 8th where his drive was stuck in the heavy rough. Rokoine had to make a bogey and drop a shot.
Antii Ahokas of Finland, South Africa’s Josh Kunliffe, Grant Jackson of England, Sweden’s Bjorn Akesson and Italy’s Charles Eduardo currently share the third spot. They had a score of three-under par, 68 and completed their first round. All these players
are three shots behind the clubhouse leader.
Quite a few players were still on the course and did not manage to complete their first round. There will be an early morning tee-off for all these players who will complete their first round early in the second day. The players that completed their first
round will start late on the second day.
