Chris Martin eyeing 200th Test scalp
The veteran New Zealand fast bowler Chris Martin is just seven wickets away from reaching his 200th Test wicket. He said that he was confident of doing so against Pakistan at Wellington in the second Test match of the series.
This will not be the first feat for Martin in the series if he claims his 200th wicket. Earlier in the first Test match, Martin became the slowest player in the history of Test cricket to reach 100 runs in 60 matches. The previous record was held
by Glenn McGrath who reached the 100th run in his 32nd Test match.
Apart from that, Martin also grabbed his 500th first-class victim after he dismissed Tanvir Ahmed in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s first innings. This was Martin’s 162nd first-class appearance.
Martin was delighted with this feat and said, “It's a nice one to achieve, not many New Zealand players in recent times have got to 500 wickets, although I know the all-time list is surprisingly long.”
The next target for Martin will be to take the next seven wickets, which will make him only the fourth bowler in the history of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 cricket to have taken 200 wickets. The 36 year old bowler has been one of the fittest members of the Kiwi team. There
have been many fitness issues with different players from New Zealand but Martin has rarely missed a match due to fitness.
Martin said that he was aware of the fact that he might be able to reach the feat in the upcoming Test match, if he performs well. He said that the wicket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864 will have pace and bounce in it so there will be plenty of opportunities for bowlers
to get wickets.
He stated, “I haven't prepared to get there in this test but I know if I bowl well there will be plenty of opportunities to take wickets there. It's a nice goal to have but I don't think I will bowl any differently to try and achieve it.”
Martin’s performance will be very important for the team as the Kiwis are one-down in the series. Pakistan will win the series even if the match ends in a draw.
