New Zealand Pacer, Chris Martin, has labelled his fellow team mate Tim Southee as a top pacer, who will rank amongst the all time greats of the New Zealand cricket.
Talking about the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Christopher-Alroy-Martin-c50714 proudly said, “He’s going to be one of our finest.”
He believes that Southee has the ability and hunger to make it http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Griffith-c919 and has made a huge progress since making his debut three years ago.
Moreover the experience pacer was adamant that Southee can perform at the top level for many years to come.
Martin added: “I can’t really see any problem with him physically. He’s going to be able to play as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-James-Muchall-c60376 cricket as he wants.”
Southee made his Test debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in 2008 where he bagged a five- wicket haul and also scored 77 crucial runs not out, with an impressive tally of nine sixes.
He was also the third highest wicket taker in the recently concluded http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011, grabbing a total of 18 wickets at an impressive average of 17.33.
Apart from Southee, Martin also praised youngsters Hamish Cooke and Jacob Duffy, who he believes need just a little more coaching.
While at the twilight of his career, the 36-year-old currently stands at 199 test wickets. He is hoping to become the fourth New Zealand bowler to get 200 test wickets when his side tours http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 in October.
Moreover, regarding his retirement, he believes that he is enjoying his game a lot and will decide hopefully by the end of the year.
Unlike other players, Martin has been lucky in regard to injuries and has managed to stay in the game at this age. Apart from that, he trains a lot and takes his profession seriously, which has allowed him to play for the Black Caps for more than a decade.
Martin is well renowned for his typical tail ender batting style where his batting average of 2.53 is ranked amongst one of the lowest for a no. 11.
Moreover he has more wickets to his test tally than runs. In the 61 test matches he has able to score only 109 runs from 89 innings he played in, with a highest of 12 not out.
New Zealand Cricket is going through a tough time as they have only managed 8 wins from 27 ODI’s and failed to record any win in the five tests they played in the past 12 months.
So they will be hoping that the combination of experience offered by Martin and exuberance of youth possessed by Southee will be used to good effect in the upcoming series against Zimbabwe.
