Chris Mullin rates Michael Jordan as best defender he faced – NBA Update
Former Golden State Warriors great Chris Mullin has revealed that the toughest defender he faced during his almost two decade long NBA career was all time great Michael Jordan. Mullin said so in an interview he gave with regards
to his upcoming induction into the basketball Hall of Fame.
Mullin is being inducted into this year’s class of the Hall of Fame which was also his last chance to do so, but the all time highest appearance maker for the Warriors really ought to have been in there a long time ago. Mullin
was a model basketball player and a devoted professional who drew high praise from legends such as Magic Johnson.
A player with good talent but not great athleticism, Mullin became a leading NBA star through sheer hard work alone and was regarded as one of the best shooters in the game whilst he was playing, alongside Celtics legend Larry
Bird.
With regard to his long awaited induction into the Hall of Fame, Chris has been giving some interviews to various news agencies. During one such interview, the question came up as to who Mullin regarded as his most tenacious opponent
on an NBA basketball court.
His answer was Michael Jordan, arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, and his pal at the Chicago Bulls, Scottie Pippen.
“They could smother you,” Mullin said. “Those two … I didn’t really play against them a lot playing here (in Golden State). In Indiana — I wish I would have been a little younger, but those two were the toughest.”
Jordan and Pippen dominated the NBA landscape for six years when they won the NBA World Champion, consecutively in the case of Michael. The two are famed for their offensive exploits, particularly Jordan, but the duo was perhaps
one of the meanest defensive pair in the history of the sport as well.
On another topic, Mullin was asked by the reporter to name his best teammate during his stay in the NBA. Chris Mullin responded in a heartbeat; Mitch Richmond.
Although Richmond and Mullin had to part ways when the former was traded to the Sacramento Kings by the Golden State Warriors, Mullin revealed that the duo had mutual respect and admiration for each other and generally enjoyed
playing together.
“No doubt,” said Mullin. “I still remember the day he came to my hotel room — it was before a game — and told me he’d been traded (by the Warriors to Sacramento). We were both — like — in shock.”
NBA fans and Golden State fans in particular are now waiting anxiously for the day Mullin is inducted into the Hall of Fame. The two times Olympic Gold Medallist deserves nothing less for his services to the game.
