Chris Narveson sparks as Milwaukee Brewers overpower Pittsburgh Pirates 8-1 - Game 1

Milwaukee Brewers’ starting pitcher, Chris Narveson had a notable day with the ball as he struck-out three batters and gifted just five hits with an ERA of 4.31 in the Brewers’ 8-1 win against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park, Pittsburgh on August 22.
In the first three innings, the batters struggled a lot with their bats and could not play accurate shots. Brewers’ second baseman, Jerry Hairston Jr. singled to left-field but Nyjer Morgan and Prince Fielder both struck-out looking at the top of first inning.
Similarly, Pirates’ batters also hit sloppy shots and got out as Josh Harrison tripled to deep left-field while Jose Tabata and Andrew McCutchen both grounded out to short-stop position.
At the bottom of second inning, Pirates’ third baseman Brandon Wood drove a single-run shot towards left-field but at second base, Ronny Cedeno popped out as Jeff Karstens struck-out swinging. Hairston Jr. doubled to deep centre-field while Morgan and Ryan
Braun both grounded out to second base without adding some runs.
Brewers took a 2-0 lead by scoring two runs at the top of fourth inning. Yuniesky Betancourt and George Kottaras both scored two collective runs for Brewers when Narveson drove a single-run hit to right-field and Craig Counsell occupied third base to complete
the fourth inning. The pitchers were again dominated from fifth to seventh inning of the game.
Narveson pitched just over five innings and surrendered just one walk on his 85 pitches. He said, “I think everybody just keeps pushing no matter how many runs or what the situation or score is.”
In the eighth inning, Brewers added four runs to raise their lead while Pirates were able to score their initial run and reduced their lead 6-1. Corey Hart scored a single run when Betancourt doubled to deep left-field. Then, Betancourt contributed the second
run when Counsell singled off centre-field. The third and fourth runs were taken by Casey McGehee and Counsell when Jonathan Lucroy doubled to deep centre-field.
On the other side, Ryan Ludwick struck a solo homer (423 feet) towards left-field to add up the first run for Pirates. Brewers further advanced their lead 8-1 during ninth inning when Braun hit a two-run homer (374 feet) to right-field and Hairston Jr. posted
the last run.
As a result, Brewers led off the four-game series 1-0 after having a comfortable victory.
