Chris Paul, Chauncey Billups cleared by doctors for full contact scrimmage – NBA News
Good news continued to pour in for the Los Angeles Clippers ahead of the coming NBA season when both their point guards, Chris Paul and Chauncey Billups, were cleared by the team doctors to participate in full contact scrimmage
and practice with their team on Tuesday ahead of their preseason fixture against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday.
Paul underwent a surgery on his right thumb after returning from the London Olympics in August to repair a torn ligament that he suffered during training camp for the U.S Olympic Basketball team. He played for the first time since
the surgery in a preseason game on Sunday against the Miami Heat in Shanghai. Billups suffered a season ending torn left Achilles tendon back in February, and is yet to be cleared by the team to play in a preseason game. This was the first time since training
camp started that Billups was cleared to participate in full contact scrimmages, and is eyeing a November or December return to the team.
“It was exciting but I didn't get to play the fourth quarter even though I was itching to play. Tomorrow is actually the first game that the doctors really cleared me to play. I begged them when I was overseas and they let me play
a few minutes but tomorrow is really the go date,” said Paul about his participation in the preseason game against the Miami Heat.
Paul played 22 minutes in the Sunday night fixture against the Heat, and managed 4 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds. He is all cleared to participate in the upcoming game against the Jazz, and is looking forward to playing the
full minutes this time around. Billups did not join his team for their week-long trip to China, and instead decided to stay back and continue working on his rehab process.
"I just used that time to continue to move forward as opposed to travel there and not play in the games. I thought it would have set me back so I used that time to spring forward a little and I think it helped,” said Billups.
