Chris Paul still ticked off on Pau Gasol for patting on the back of his head – NBA News
Chris Paul is one of the most inspiring and down to earth superstars in the NBA. The All-Star point guard of the Los Angeles Clippers, who just won a gold medal with team USA in the 2012 London Olympics, is coming off a great season
with the Clippers where he took centre stage in the franchise and led them to the 2nd round of the playoffs.
With his arrival, the Clippers are not only winning, but regaining the fans base they had lost to the Los Angeles Lakers over the years. There is a certain buzz around the Clippers ever since Paul joined them and the noise is becoming
even louder with the roster additions the Clippers made during the summer, making them playoff contenders this coming season.
And all the while that Paul was turning around the fate of the franchise and gaining the trust and admiration of his new teammates, he seemed calm and composed, as if he was only focused on the eventual goal, and everything else
was irrelevant, more like a distraction. Which is why many found it quite odd when Paul took it personal after Pau Gasol patted him on the back of his head after a close game between the Lakers and the Clippers during the regular season, which the Lakers eventually
won.
In an recent interview with GQ, Paul was asked about the incident and he still seemed a little ticked off.
“We call that sonnin’. Like when I take Li’l Chris to the bathroom, I’ll walk with my hand on his head. That’s my son. You know what I mean? I understand that Gasol is that tall, but don’t do to me what I do to my son,” said Paul
referring to the pat by Gasol.
“I’ve been fortunate to be short my entire life. There’s only one position I’ve ever had to play, and that’s point guard. So I’ve always had to be that leader. And that was my job: you know, to talk. I’m a big-time people person,
too. Like, I love people. I hate to be by myself,” added Paul.
Paul has a lot of work ahead of himself as the regular season approaches, which will be his last with the Clippers on the current contract. This means that Paul will be a free agent next summer, and although the Clippers are in
the driving seat to re-sign him next year, he still wants to see how the season plays out before committing long term to the team.
Clippers fans are looking at him to take them to the next step this coming season, and anything less than a Western Conference Finals appearance won’t do.
