Chris Perez shines as Detroit Tigers lose to Cleveland Indians – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers were upset by Cleveland Indians 1-2 at Progressive Field, Cleveland Ohio on Thursday, May 24 in the decisive finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Shin Soo Choo provided the Indians with a perfect start as he homered to right in the first inning. Miguel Cabrera grounded out to shortstop to score the only run for Detroit. Prince Fielder, Delmon Young and Cabrera will have up their game play considerably to help the Tigers give consistent results.
"This is huge for the team," said Perez. "We played good ball these last three games. I said when I made the comments that I was just going to go out and do the job. Luckily, I've been able to come through."
"We're not scoring," Leyland said. "We're not swinging. That pretty much sums it up. I don't know what else to tell you. I'd love to have something juicy for you, but I don't."
"I was like, 'Oh, no, please,'" Masterson said.
"I told him, 'Let's do this,'" said Masterson of Cabrera.
Chris Perez, who was absolutely sensational throughout the series, punched the air in celebration after the Indians swept the Tigers on Thursday’s evening. The Tigers had an easy time in the American League Central division last season but it seems they will have to fight hard to achieve their goals this year.
Cleveland gave poor results last season and most of the analysts expected the Tigers to lead the AL Central division right from the beginning. With their win against the Tigers, the Indians have opened a six game lead over the third placed Tigers.
Tigers have now lost six out of their last eight games and the skipper Leyland will have to come up a brilliant plan to change the course of their campaign. Ace Justin Verlander will be very disappointed after suffering his second loss of the season.
He went into the game with a game with a decent 5-1 record. However, credit must be given Justin Masterson who matched him pitch for pitch to win his first career start against the Tigers.
