Chris Powell appointed as Charlton Athletic manager
Former Leicester City first team coach Chris Powell has signed a three and a half year contract with Charlton Athletic.
“We spoke to a number of strong candidates as part of the recruitment process. As soon as we met Chris, it was clear he was our stand-out candidate and the one we wanted to be our new manager,” stated Charlton president, Michael Slater.
The president added that Powell possesses an unparalleled passion for the club and he is a born leader. Along with this, Powell has a lot of football knowledge and his ideas for the future are remarkable, making him the perfect man for the job.
“We firmly believe http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 is the right man to take the club forward on the pitch and we're thrilled to have got him. We think the fans will be, too,” stated the president.
Powell himself was delighted to have joined the club and thanked his former club Leicester for releasing him from the coaching job. The manager aimed to take Charlton into the championship and claimed that it would be the dawn of a new era at the club.
Powell had a successful career as a player and then had his hands full with many off-the-field theatrics. These include being the Chairman of Professional Footballers’ Association along with his involvement in the ‘Kick It Out’ campaign, which aimed to take
racism out of football.
His tireless efforts for the campaign earned him a lot of respect from everyone around him.
“This is great news. His knowledge and enthusiasm is first rate, not to mention his awareness and understanding of key social issues,” stated Slater.
Cowell’s work with ‘Kick It Out’ and his achievements as the PFA Chairman are commendable but it would be interesting to see him take over the managerial role. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international has been in the field for nearly 20 years, which gives him an
edge over people who only have a management degree.
