Chris Pronger to miss start of Philadelphia Flyer Camp
It has been confirmed that Chris Pronger will miss the beginning of the Philadelphia Flyers training camp, and could be at risk of missing the beginning of the regular season.
Pronger suffered a knee injury in the Flyers second-round match-up against the Boston Bruins. According to Pronger the knee was bothering him throughout the course of the Flyers play-off run.
The Flyers defeated the Bruins and continued on to the Stanley Cup Finals where they were eventually defeated by the Chicago Blackhawks.
Pronger said of the injury during the post-season, “Moving forward from there it was obviously an issue. I had to get it drained a couple of times. It was pretty swollen through the course of the play-offs, but that’s the nature of the game.”
Pronger put on an impressive performance during the play-offs despite his injury, registering four goals and 14 assists, while maintaining an astonishing 29 minutes a game of ice time.
Flyers camp is set to open on 17 September, and the hulking defender is positive he will not be able to take part in the early portions of camp. The veteran is still uncertain as to whether or not he will be available for the Flyers opening game of the season, which is set to go on 7 October.
Pronger said of the time he will miss due to the injury, “I hope to be in the line-up on October 7, but it is still very early on in the process to begin guessing on a timeframe. A lot can happen over the next few weeks and months, but absolutely this is one of the goals.”
Last season was Pronger’s first with the Flyers and the 35-year-old managed 10 goals, and 45 assists for 55 points, while going plus-22 and averaging nearly 26 minutes a game.
