Chris Rainey could be back for Florida Gators against Georgia Bulldogs
Florida Gator’s wide receiver and running back Chris Rainey is eligible to return to the line-up when the team takes on the Georgia Bulldogs on 30 October.
Rainey was charged with aggravated stalking after he sent inappropriate text messages to a women he once dated. One of the text messages included the phrase “time to die”. The state attorney determined that the charge should be lowered to misdemeanour stalking,
allowing the two sides to enter into an agreement. After Rainey was charged, the Gators made the decision to suspend him from the line-up, saying that his status would be under constant evaluation.
Rainey was able to come to an arrangement with the attorney of the victim and has been cleared to return to the Gators’ line-up.
Nevertheless, Florida head coach Urban Meyer has said that he is not sure if Rainey will get the start against Georgia in week nine.
However, the Gators may need all the help they can get on the offensive side of the ball, as the club has now dropped three games in a row. More importantly the club’s offence has taken a major hit over the past three games. Florida’s passing offence now
ranks 84th in the nation, only averaging 186.9 yards per game, while their running game is not faring much better, ranked 75th in the country with an average of 142.1 yards per game.
Rainey’s ability to play both running back and wide receiver could boost the club’s offence. In addition, Florida has a bye in week eight, which would give the junior an extra week to integrate himself back into the offence.
Before he was suspended by the team on 15 September, Rainey played in two games and managed six receptions for 34 yards and one touchdown, along with 20 rushing yards.
