Chris Robshaw wants to win last test – Rugby News Update
Chris Robshaw, the 26-year-old Harlequins and England back-row, and the current captain of the team, wants a consolation win in the third and final test of the series.
Having lost the first two test matches against the Springboks on their tour of South Africa, the back-row is determined to win a solitary scalp next week, when the two teams lock in battle for the final time this summer. England lost 36 – 27 but they gave
a massive fight in the second-half.
By half-time at the match at Ellis Park, England was convincingly losing 25 – 10 but a late rally by the visiting team brought a certain respectability to the score, which has given confidence to the England captain before the third and final test. He believed
that England had left it too late but does believe that it has been an important learning curve for the team.
He said, "The scrum was vastly improved from last week and our maul was very good and we challenged them with the kicks. Unfortunately we couldn't do them last week.”
Robshaw is also confident that they can win the third test if they tweak their game plan a little bit but singled out defense as an area that the team needs to improve upon, even though he alluded to the perfect displays of the team during the 2012 Six Nations
tournament.
"We are obviously very disappointed but credit to the South African side to win the series," he said. "They came out all guns blazing and we gave ourselves too much to do. Just after half-time we were down by an 18-point deficit and that is a long way to
come back.”
He further added, "Credit to all the boys to come back and win the second-half but unfortunately it was too little, too late.”
The England Captain spoke about playing in front of the over 60,000 capacity crowd at Ellis Park, and he feels that the team enjoyed the experience. They will learn from the hostile environment and become a better side.
Robshaw made his debut against Argentina at Salta, on June 13, 2009 and has played 8 times for his country.
