Chris Stewart shines as San Francisco Giants defeat Arizona Diamondbacks 4-2 – MLB Update
Chris Stewart put in a tremendous effort as he hammered a huge home-run to help the San Francisco Giants beat Arizona Diamondbacks 4-2 at Scottsdale Stadium in Arizona on Wednesday, March 2.
Though the Diamondbacks could not make their way to victory, the players tried hard to overpower the opponents. Diamondbacks’ pitcher Micah Owing, Josh Collmenter and Yonata Ortega gave a tough time to the Giants as Micah allowed just one hit in third innings.
Josh and Ortega helped him in the hopes of winning the game with their fastballs that put the batters in trouble.
However, the Giants acquired their dominance and retained it until end. Jonathan Sanchez was at his best when he did not allow the batters to make any score on pitches he made in his second straight game in the spring workout. He crushed the opponents as
he forced three batters to leave the ground with paced balls and allowed only four hits. One of the batters walked out on his pitches that added advantage to the defenders. His team-mate Jeremy Affeldt assisted him striking-out one with his brilliant pitches.
The 33-year-old right-handed second baseman Freddy Sanchez made two important runs for the Giants, one in the first and one in the second inning. However, first baseman Russell Branyan was the first to score a run for the Giants. He added two runs to the
Giants’ account one in each inning. Stewart provided the real jump when he posted an extra-base and one-out double to left in the sixth inning.
Now the Diamondbacks have a different plan for the up-coming game against the San Diego Padres in Peoria. The team officials have planned to give a chance to top prospect Jarrod Parker for his second game in spring training. Last time Parker appeared he
proved his selection the right decision, as he did not let the batters hit any runs off him. He did not let Tommy John surgery to get in his way. He was the club’s Number one pick in 2007.
On the other hand, the win has boosted the confidence of the Giants for their next match against rivals Colorado Rockies on Thursday at Salt River Fields. Looking at the momentum of the players, experts have declared Giants favorite team.
