Chris Stroud sees dip in position following an average performance in the second round – Golf News
Chris Stroud mixed four birdies with three bogeys for a one-under par 71 in the second round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on Friday, April 27, 2012.
Stroud started well, as he was two-under par for the round through eight holes. However, three bogeys on the next four holes took him to over-par score.
Yet, he made a quick comeback with a couple of consecutive birdies on the 13th and 14th hole to finish off at a seven-under par two-round score.
Previously in the opening round, he was totally impressive, as he carded a six-under par 66 with the help of five birdies and an eagle against a lone bogey.
“You work hard, you hope to have that happen a lot and obviously a little luck involved there but, you know, I just felt very comfortable. After I made that 2 there, it seemed to just catapult me for the rest of the day,” he said of the eagle that he made
on the 3th hole.
Overall, he was very pleased and was looking forward to another good round on Friday. He said, “I did better and then got a couple extra for the morning round”.
“It's going to be nice, soft greens tomorrow and hopefully the wind will be down for us and see if we can play through. It's one of my favourite tournaments of the year. I'm very excited to play here”.
However, the results did not return the way he planned them to. He is still in a good position to challenge his rivals on the leaderboard. He is currently five strokes behind the leader Jason Dufner.
His performance on Saturday will clarify the entire situation about where he may settle at the end of the tournament.
Meanwhile, the best rounds of the day were recorded by Russell Knox and Greg Chalmers, both of whom carded an eight-under par 64 each.
Knox managed to record seven birdies and an eagle against a lone bogey to share the second spot. On the other hand, Chalmers achieved the same mark with the help of nine birdies and an eagle against three bogeys to tie for the fifth spot.
