Chris Sutton thanked his team for the support in the 2011 season
Team Sky rider, Chris Sutton had a wonderful 2011 season and even an injury at the Tour Down Under could not affect his winning streak. He was quick enough to recover from the injury as he came back in action and won the Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne one month later.
Chris commented on his overall performance, saying that his team and management supported him throughout the year. He also mentioned that all the team members helped him throughout the season and they were the main reason behind his success.
He said, "It’s like any apprenticeship, you start off at the bottom just learning and picking up the little details, and over time you start getting the opportunities to show yourself in the bigger races”.
Sutton started his professional career with Team Cofidis in 2005 and stayed with the team for three years. He then joined Garmin Slipstream in 2008 and finally moved to Team Sky in 2010. The cyclist will continue with the British team for the third consecutive
season.
He earned 17 points throughout the year and secured the 130th position at the UCI World Tour Individual rankings as of October 2011.
Sutton won the first stage at the Giro d’ Italia 2008 along with the 3rd finish at the Tour of Britain and the 4th overall at the Tour of Qatar the same year.
His outstanding performance at the Herald Sun Tour is probably the best performance of his career so far.
Chris won stage 2, 3 and 4 and also finished 2nd overall at the Herald Sun Tour 2009. He won a stage at the Tour of Britain and finished 2nd after the final General Classifications.
The 27-year-old won the yellow jersey at the Bay Classic Series 2010 along with a stage 6 victory at the Tour Down Under.
Sutton also commented on his inclusion at the World Championships as he said, "Some may criticize the selectors, but to be part of a team that wins a silver medal is nothing to be ashamed of. We did really well, and Mark [Cavendish] was just better on the
day".
Chris is hopeful to perform better as he will now be accompanied by Mark Cavendish, who has joined Team Sky for 2012.
