http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Taylor-c1253 joins Somerset as fielding coach - Cricket News Update
Inside 24 hours since being formally released by his previous County, Gloucestershire, Chris Taylor has signed a deal with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 as their new fielding coach for the 2012 season.
Somerset's director of cricket, Brian Rose confirmed the signing today. Excited at snapping up http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 as the fielding specialist, Rose hoped his experience of playing first-class cricket will help the county improve its championship
ranking this summer.
"Fielding has become extraordinarily important in all forms of cricket and it can be the make or break of any game so to bring in Chris, who has had many years of first-class experience and has become a specialist in what he is doing,
is highly exciting,” said Brian Rose while speaking to the media reporters on Tuesday.
"As pre-season has progressed it has become obvious what a difference a specialist coach like Chris can make. I am delighted with the work that has already been done and he will be a major contributor to our cricket this summer,"
he added further.
Taylor’s 12-year-long association with the Nevil Road ended after the Bristol City Council rejected Gloucestershire’s application to develop Bristol home as his stay at the county was dependent on the approval of the development plan
from the council.
The 35-year-old right-handed batsman, who was the leading run getter of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gloucestershire-c785 last season, had earlier sought litigation against the county for an unfair dismissal but later he reached a settlement with the club’s management
and decided to leave Nevil Ground.
Taylor, a specialist right-handed batsman and a part-time off-spinner, was the fielding coach of Gloucestershire more recently. He has also worked as a fielding coach with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and Wales Cricket Board during the off-season.
He joined England's Performance Programme and the Lions' squad as the fielding coach over the winter and has also been working with Somerset CCC on a consultancy basis.
With a tally of 1,139 runs at an average of 40.67, the former Gloucestershire skipper was the leading run scorer for the county in the 2011 season, as the side finished fourth in the County Championship Division Two.
To date he has played 160 first-class matches scoring 9083 runs at 34.93, including 20 centuries and 43 half centuries.
