Chris Tillman shines as Baltimore Orioles annihilate Seattle Mariners 10-4 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles continued to find winning ways as they flattened the Seattle Mariners 10-4 at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington in the opening game of their three match series.
Nathan McLouth looked in terrific touch as he homered to right in the first inning to open the account for the Orioles. Mark Reynolds built on, reaching for an infield single to double the lead to 2-0.
J.J. Hardy, Manny Machado, Matt Wieters and Adam Jones kept Mariners on the defensive, scoring runs at regular intervals. It will not be wrong to say that they played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash.
Starting pitcher Chris Tillman continued his heroic run as he improved to 8-2, pitching seven sharp innings for just three hits and one run. Striking-out four batters, he looked on top of his game-play.
"Just like scoring in a lot of innings, it's just the pass-the-baton mentality," Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter said. "I think the pitchers feel the same way, too. They're staying focused for these nine innings, they turn the page, then there's the next
nine innings."
"He's done well, period," Mariners’ manager Eric Wedge said in a post game interview. "He's pitched well this year but, yes, he has pitched well against us, too. He's kind of short arm, over the top, a little bit sneaky, real good breaking ball. Then he
mixes in his changeup a little. He did a nice job.”
It was an important win of for the Orioles who are fighting hard to stay in the playoff’s race. Right now, they are placed second on the American League East Division standings table just a game behind the leaders New York Yankees.
Nobody really expected Orioles to emerge as a major force before the start of the season. After more than a decade, it seems there is a strong relationship between them and their fans.
With New York also showing signs of form, the Orioles will be looking to play out of their skin to reclaim the Number one status on the American League East Division standings table.
