Chris Tremlett hopes back surgery will prolong Test career – Cricket News Update
England’s injured fast bowler, Chris Tremlett, is confident that a spine surgery will enable him to extend his Test career by atleast 6 years.
The pacer is suffering from a bulging disc in his spine which needs to be decompressed through surgery. The problem occurred in the middle of last year – Tremlett played in the first Test of the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in July 2011, when he took 3 for 80 and
1 for 44 at Lord’s, before his fitness problems arose, forcing him to back out of the remainder of the series.
After working hard to recover, the 30-year-old attempted another comeback against Pakistan earlier this year, in the Test series in UAE. He performed well in the First Class tour match between the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 XI, during which he
took 2/30, and 2/32. However, once the actual series began, it turned out to be a repeat of last year’s incident, as the right-hander was forced to bow out after playing the first Test on January 17 – once again, owing to fitness issues.
However, after repeated interruptions in his career, the Test bowler has decided to opt for surgery, which he hopes will enable him to resurrect and prolong it.
“… after working hard to get back, the problem re-occurred after the first Test against Pakistan in Dubai and the only option was to come back and have the operation as soon as possible,” he explained.
He went on to add that while surgeons were confident that he could return to the field by May this year, he was unsure about such an early comeback, and planned to take things cautiously.
“But whatever the time frame, hopefully this surgery will nip the problem in the bud and prolong my career for five or six years.”
While http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ST-Finn-c2566 in the current ODI series against Pakistan, indicates that he may be given a chance to feature in the Test XI as well. This could mean that
Tremlett may find himself moving down in the pecking order. In addition, a rotation policy might be put into effect owing to the surplus of fast bowlers.
However, while he acknowledges that the England team is going strong and consequently competition is stiff, Tremlett is convinced that each bowler has his own unique contribution to offer.
“… I think we all bowl in slightly different ways. Finny brings the ball in, I’m more of a swinger and Broad does a bit of everything,” he elaborated.
With the English due to fight it out against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 from 26 March, and Steven Finn included in the squad, the outcome of the series could determine where Tremlett stands in the side once he returns after his surgery.
