Chris Tremlett named as England’s World Cup reserve
Chris Tremlett will also be on the flight taking England’s World Cup squad to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 as he has been called up as a travelling reserve with England’s World Cup squad. The decision was taken following a spate of injuries in England’s bowling
attack.
The 29-year old pacer, who has recently recovered from a side strain, will be on stand-by to be included in to the 15-member squad of England if selectors want to replace an injured player at any stage in the six-week long tournament.
Tremlett, who played a key role in England’s triumphant Ashes campaign, claiming six wickets at an average of 33.50, and played four One Day Internationals (ODIs) as well before picking up a side strain at Adelaide Oval that ruled him out
of the remaining series.
Geoff Miller, the national selector of England and Wales Cricket Board said:
"Whilst the injured bowlers in the 15-man squad are all progressing well, the selectors have decided it would be prudent to have an additional player on hand who is acclimatised in case we need to apply to the Event Technical Committee for
a replacement due to injury”.
Both Tremlett and Ajmal Shehzad flew home together after picking up injuries but the former made a sufficiently swift recovery and is now all set to take the ball if any of the first-choice pacers fails to make it.
Miller said that Tremlett would be an ideal replacement if injury rules any of the first-choice pace bowlers out of the tournament or for a part of the tournament.
Stuart Broad, who had sustained an abdominal muscle injury in the second Ashes Test at Adelaide Oval, is near full recovery and is expected to be on track ahead of the warm-up matches. Spinner Graeme Swann is still causing concern while
Tim Bresnan is a further doubt with a calf strain.
England coach, Andy Flower, however, was hopeful his depleted bowling stock would be completely fit ahead of the mega event.
"We've got good news on most of our other players," confirmed Flower."The guys that came back early are progressing well”.
Tremlett excelled during the tour Down Under, taking 17 wickets at 23.35 in his three Tests, as England won the Ashes courtesy of three victories and then added a further six wickets in four ODIs.
