Gangling England pacer Chris Tremlett, who missed out on a central contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), earlier this month, on Wednesday signed a new one-year deal with the Surrey County Cricket Club.
"I've signed the new contract at the end of the season and I'm absolutely delighted to stay at Surrey for another year," Tremlett told Surrey TV after finalizing the deal with the club on Wednesday. "We've got a big year ahead of us so I'm looking forward to that challenge. In the meantime it's all about working hard and getting my body in the best shape ready so I can hit the ground running for the new season," he added further.
The 31-year-old right-arm medium pacer had an injury-plagued 2012 season. Initially Tremlett picked up a back injury, which he returned from in June and played six Twenty20 matches for Surrey and one county championship fixture before being ruled out due to a knee problem.
The lanky pacer, who had a back surgery in February this year, recently underwent a knee surgery to repair torn knee cartilage, and is targeting a comeback to competitive cricket during Surrey’s pre-season training.
The Hampshire-born fast bowler played no List A, three first-class and six Twenty20 matches since July last year. His only County Championship appearance for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806, at Guildford, in which he returned with figures of one for 82.
The right-arm seamer, who has played 11 Tests, 15 One Day Internationals and one T20 International for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, has not played an international match since January this year. His continuous absence from the international scene also cost him a central contract for 2012/13 season. But the gangling pace bowler does not see this as an end to his seven-year-long international career, and vowed to make a strong come back after recovering completely from the niggles.
"I'm very keen to get back out there and almost start a new chapter in my career," said Tremlett who has to date picked up 49 Test scalps from 11 appearances, at 26.75. "I still feel as though I’ve a lot to offer at Surrey and hopefully again at England at some point," he concluded.
