Joey Barton, 30, joined Les Phoceens in the final few days of the summer transfer window after he was frozen out by QPR manager Mark Hughes following his 12-game ban by the Football Association for his violent misconduct during the last game of last season
against Manchester City.
Tonight, the former Newcastle United man is set to make his home debut for Marseille in the second game of the UEFA Europa League against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cyprus-c2881. However, the midfielder is yet to make his Ligue 1 debut as the LFP chose to respect FA’s
decision to ban him.
So far, Barton has played just one game for Les Phoceens which was in the 2-2 draw against Fenerbahce in the club’s first group game of the Europa League.
And, Chris Waddle, who led the Rhone club to three Ligue 1 Championnats between 1989 and 1992, is perplexed by the club’s decision to bring such a volatile player on loan for a year. The Englishman is not sure if Barton would be happy with management if
he does not play regularly and even said that Twitter will let the world know if Barton is enjoying his time at Canebiere or not.
"Unless someone's built him up into being Zinedine Zidane, I don't know how he got that move. He'll do well to play football and if he's not playing, will Joey be happy? We'll probably find out on Twitter.”
Waddle further added that Marseille’s fans are fanatics and if Barton manages to upset the fans, he might as well leave town. Waddle is very pessimistic about Barton’s chances of doing well at Marseille and claims that the controversial midfielder will upset
the fans eventually.
Although very critical of the move, Waddle also added that Barton could have a great time in Marseille if he comes to terms to life in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899.
"In Marseille, it's one team, one town," Waddle said. "They're fanatics. Wherever you go, everyone's a Marseille fan. The supporters are unbelievable and in the town everybody just talks about Marseille. I think he'll enjoy that. If he plays well, they'll
take to him."
Although Barton had a controversial career in England, it is still early days to have a pessimistic view of the player’s move to Marseille. During his recent interviews, the midfielder has expressed his happiness at being able to secure a move to France,
so Mr. Waddle might be left eating his own words by the end of the current season.
