Chris Wall’s Premio Loco shines through the Group 3 Blue Square Winter Derby at Lingfield
Premio Loco succeeded over Cai Shen in the Group 3 Blue Square Winter Derby at Lingfield on 24th March, 2012, which covered a distance of 1 mile and 2 furlongs, earning the prize of £56,710.00.
Trained by Chris Wall, Premio Loco entered the race with odds of 5 to 1. He started at a good place and maintained a steady pace and composure.
He led inside and ran on well defeating, Cai Shen, by a narrow distance of ½ length. The son of Prized, out of Crazee Mental was paired with George Baker in this race, who took control and guided him to the victory.
This seasonal start was impressive for the eight-year-old gelding, who finished the last race of 2011 in a less commendable manner. He finished seventh in a line-up of ten runners in the Darley Stakes at Newmarket on 8th October, 2011.
Cai Shen, coupled with Jamie Spencer, missed first place narrowly but ran well. Trained by Richard Hannon for Mrs. J. Wood, the son of Iffraaj, out of Collada, showed a steady pace, but was held in the final 100 yards by the winner. He raced with the odds
of 4 to 1, as a joint favourite with Junoob.
Circumvent put in a valiant effort, missing a finish in second by a negligible difference of a head to Cai Shen. Under Jimmy Fortune, he entered the race with the odds of 16 to 1.
He headed and stayed on well inside the final furlong but lost the last two strides. The son of Tobougg, out of mare Seren Devious, performed well enough to please his trainer Paul Cole, who trains him for The Fairy Story Partnership.
Junoob, the joint favourite raced with the odds of 4 to 1, finished in tenth place. Trained by Tom Dascombe, the son of Haafhd, out of Faydah, had a dismal start to the race. He still showed determination, and made some headway. He showed signs of exhaustion
and weakened inside the final furlong, losing his pace.
This race was a shining moment for Premio Loco and his connections. His talent is demonstrated on the track because of the hard-work of Chris Wall. His prospects for future races look bright.
